Stitching Together a Better Tomorrow
In many rural communities across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, women face profound economic vulnerability. Limited access to formal employment, lack of vocational skills, and social barriers combine to keep many women and their families trapped in cycles of poverty.
MERCE Charitable Trust's Hands of Blessings Sewing Centres are designed to break that cycle.
What We Offer
Each Sewing Centre provides:
- Comprehensive tailoring training lasting 3–6 months
- Provision of sewing machines for practice and eventual ownership
- Business literacy workshops to help graduates set up their own enterprises
- Linkage to Self-Help Groups for ongoing peer support and micro-finance access
Stories of Transformation
Lakshmi, a 34-year-old mother of three from a small village in Telangana, joined our Sewing Centre after her husband's health deteriorated and the family's income collapsed. Within six months, she had completed her training and begun taking tailoring orders from her neighbours.
"I never thought I could earn money on my own. Today, I provide for my children and I have savings for the first time in my life."
Our Vision for Women's Empowerment
We firmly believe that when a woman is empowered, an entire family — and community — is uplifted. Our programme does not stop at sewing. We connect our graduates to:
- Financial literacy programmes
- Self-Help Group networks for collective savings and credit
- Small business development workshops
We invite businesses, donors, and volunteers to partner with us in expanding this life-changing programme to more villages across our region.
